Robin Hood and South Africa

Cheers!

While the Group Study Exchange Team, led by Barry Briggs, (Dereham Club) of Becky Preeder, Beverley Carpenter, Karen Knight and Stephen McGrath were in District 9320 Cape Province, South Africa, e-mail communication was established with Barry Downs, Webmaster of the Kimberley Club. (His site is well worth a look)

Hearing that his correspondent was off to Nottingham for a weekend, Barry Downs wondered if the "Trip to Jerusalem", a pub built into the walls of Nottingham Castle, was still there.   The name comes from when pilgrims would gather in the town prior to departure for the Holy Land.

Barry Downs was a student at Leicester Univerity (1963-1966) and spent many a jolly evening there when he was doing vacation work at Raleigh Industries in Nottingham.

He requested his correspondent: "Say hi to 'The Trip to Jerusalem' if it is still there".
Not only is it still there, and a pint of local ale raised to the Kimberley Club and the GSE Team, but a painted sign on an exterior wall says "Kimberley Ales". Was that a portent of Barry's emigration?
