Sudbury Talbot is the newest club within Rotary District 1080 and was welcomed into the Rotary fellowship by District Governor Barry Catchpole, who formally presented the Rotary International Charter to the club's first President, Joan Clarke, and Rotary badges and Objects of Rotary to the Talbot club's 22 founder members. Guest speaker at the event was Lord Phillips of Sudbury, also known as the "Legal Eagle". Andrew Phillips, of the law firm Bates Wells and Braithwaite, in an amusing speech covering some of Sudbury's best-known sons also mentioned his own connections with Rotary, as the legal representative of Inner Wheel. Among the many clubs represented at the Charter Dinner were two lady Rotarians visiting from Seattle. The many presentations of regalia, artifacts and banners made to President Joan Clarke by other clubs present, included the ceremonial transfer of the wooden spoon for the newest club in District 1080 from Norwich Blackfriars to Sudbury Talbot. The R.I.B.I. President's representative, Rotarian Derek Fitzhugh, gave an address and welcome into the Fellowship of Rotary International. |

The article above first appeared in the 1080 News Apr 2000 on pp21-22.
Sudbury Talbot is a dual gender club, with 22 members (Apr 2000), of whom two thirds are female. They are active in supporting Rotary Charities, in the process of filling two more Aquaboxes, added to the one filled before inauguration, and have also ordered a classroom in a box.
The club meet on Monday evenings, 7.15 for 7.30 pm at Kinloch's Restaurant, Gainsborough Street, Sudbury, CO10 2EU. Tel: 01787 377871.
However, as with many clubs, there
are occasions when meetings are held elsewhere. For example on some Mondays when the
original Sudbury Rotary Club hold an evening meeting, Sudbury Talbot join forces with
their parent and sponsor club. For that reason it is always advisable for visiting
Rotarians to contact either the President or Secretary in advance to confirm the meeting venue.
Details may be found on Club Venues (South).
They are planning to set up a Club website!

Talbot ? The name given to the small dog, prominent on the Town Coat of Arms and (probably) unique to Sudbury.
