Semiseptcentennial (350th) Celebrations,
City of Norwich, Connecticut, U.S.A. 2009
Family members Erica and Michael Salt(UK Norfolk), Margaret Ince, Jean and John Lawe (Norwich, Vermont) were honoured and delighted to accept the invitation from Norwich Ct. Mayor Benjamin Lathrop to join his citizens for a week of their birthday celebrations.
I think I can speak for us all in saying that the abiding memory of the week is the welcoming kindness and generosity, beyond all bounds, of the people in Norwich Ct.
Personally, I must thank Marion O’Keefe and her husband for transporting me to and from New York airport. They welcomed this stranger into their home, as did my Norwich homestay hosts Paul Coutu and Bill Turner of Kentford Farm.

A full and exciting programme had been thoroughly planned for us; thank you Christine Steliga, Betty Robinson and all your hardworking colleagues. On the first morning there was a Breakfast Reception to meet Mayor Lathrop and exchange greetings and gifts from both Norwich Cities.
A plaque was presented from our Family, recording our Norfolk and Norwich Family Gathering 2009 and our gift of a sugar maple tree to the people of Norfolk Ct. This tree to be planted on their Norwichtown Green.
In the following days we had City tours, fun at a baseball match, were hosted by members of the Mohegan Tribal nation to their church, museum and casino, then marvelled at the July 4th fireworks. Our highlight was joining in the 350th Celebration Parade, riding on the magnificent Norfolk and Norwich World Family float, our banner carried before it.
Throughout our visit- the warmth, hospitality and forging of new friendships that is the very heart of the Norfolk and Norwich World Family.
